Comparison between three-point and four-point flexural tests to determine wood strength of eucalyptus specimens [PDF]
Comparison between flexural wood strength values obtained from three-point and four-point bending tests in wood were only reported in few previous works, but remains unclear.

A chair is a piece of furniture whose elements are loaded with relatively high forces. The strength of these elements is vital for the safety of using this type of furniture. The research aims to test the chair material system made of beech wood.

The mechanical strength of a plant stem (a load-bearing organ) helps the plant resist drooping, buckling and fracturing. We previously proposed a method for quickly evaluating the stiffness of an inflorescence stem in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana based on measuring its natural frequency in a free-vibration test.

On the difference between flexural moduli obtained by three-point and four-point bending tests
It has been experimentally seen that flexural moduli obtained by three-point and four-point bending tests are different for the same specimen. The slope of the load-displacement curve increases as load increases in both tests, showing an apparent stiffening of the specimen.

Abstract Anisotropic polymeric matrix composite discs supported on three points were subjected to a non-destructive bending test to study their behaviour in complex flexural loading situations. The results show that the flexural behaviour of the composites depends on several factors, such as fibre orientation, laminate stacking, surface waviness and ...

Displacements and strains are very important for material evaluation as critical factors to a machine`s life cycle and safety. Typically, the strain gauge has been employed to measure displacement and strain. However, this contact-type measurement method has disadvantages that are not quantified under the test conditions of a specific object shape ...

Programmable material testing device for mechanoluminescence measurements
Mechanoluminescent materials transform mechanical energy into visible light. Phenomena could prove to be advantageous to various next-generation monitoring systems employed in the fields of security and healthcare if the intrinsic mechanisms are fully ...

Flexural Properties and Fracture Behavior of Nanoporous Alumina film by Three-Point Bending Test [PDF]
This study investigated the influence of porosity on the flexural property of a nanoporous alumina film. When the porosity of the alumina film increased, both bending strength and modulus declined. The results from the bending test revealed that the setting of the film during the bending test had significant influence on the flexural property. Fracture
