Recent Advances in Computational Modeling of Thrombosis [PDF]
The study of thrombosis is crucial to understand and develop new therapies for diseases like deep vein thrombosis, diabetes related strokes, pulmonary embolism etc. The last two decades have seen an exponential growth in studies related to the blood clot formation using computational tools and through experiments.

Mathematical modeling of thrombus formation in idealized models of aortic dissection: Initial findings and potential applications [PDF]
Aortic dissection is a major aortic catastrophe with a high morbidity and mortality risk caused by the formation of a tear in the aortic wall. The development of a second blood filled region defined as the “false lumen” causes highly disturbed flow ...

Circulating Platelets as Mediators of Immunity, Inflammation, and Thrombosis
Platelets, non-nucleated blood components first described over 130 years ago, are recognized as the primary cell regulating hemostasis and thrombosis.

Thrombosis and the "Pill" [PDF]
The incidence of thrombophlebitis occurring in women on the pill and those not on the pill is discussed. The accurracy of the findings of the Medical Research Council that women taking the pill or either pregnant or puerperal women were 3 and 6 times more likely than nonpregnant nonpill-takers to develop phlebitis are questioned.

Current status of liver transplantation for non‐B non‐C liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma
Recently, the cases of LT for non‐B non‐C cirrhosis and HCC have been increasing in Japan as well as worldwide. Perioperative management of non‐B non‐C liver disease is problematic due to various risk factors, including alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome‐related risks, such as obesity and diabetes mellitus.

Compression force sensing regulates integrin αIIbβ3 adhesive function on diabetic platelets
Diabetes is associated with an increased thrombotic response, but the mechanism is unknown. Here the authors demonstrate that compressive force activates integrin αIIbβ3 on discoid diabetic platelets and that platelet aggregates can be eliminated by PI 3-
