Traumatic intracardiac thrombus
Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2000A 36-year-old male was seen in the emergency room after being hit by a car while riding a snowmobile; on admission, he was hemodynamically stable. He had multiple fractures with a right pneumothorax requiring a chest tube. Because of possible myocardial injury, he was evaluated with a transesophageal echocardiogram that revealed an abnormal motion of ...

Twenty-six peripheral arterial emboli complicating 14 cases of mural thrombi of the aorta were diagnosed between January 1978 and December 1986. None of these patients had any cardiovascular history; their mean age was 49 years. Presenting signs were acute ischemia of the lower limbs in 12 cases and chronic ischemia in two.

The protein kinase C (PKC) family has been implicated in several physiological processes regulating platelet activation. Each isoform of PKC expressed on platelets, may have a positive and/or negative role depending on the nature and concentration of the agonist.

Floating thrombus in the aorta
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2001A review of the literature shows that there are few reported cases of embolism or thrombus in a nonaneurysmal, effectively normal aorta with no other underlying reason for thrombus formation in the aorta. We report a case of a large, floating thrombus in the descending aorta lumen and discuss surgical and management options.

Angiomyolipoma with a Caval Thrombus
Urologia Internationalis, 2003We report the case of a female patient presenting with flank pain. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a tumor of 8 cm in diameter. After abdominal computerized tomography, the tumor was classified as angiomyolipoma with a tumor thrombus in the inferior vena cava. After nephrectomy, the diagnosis was confirmed histologically.

BackgroundDifferent imaging characteristics such as clot burden score, collaterals, and pre-interventional thrombus migration are associated with functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Moreover, histological thrombus composition is associated with pre-interventional thrombus migration.

Mechanisms of Thrombus Formation
New England Journal of Medicine, 2008This review is an account of recent advances in our understanding of the mechanisms of thrombus formation, with emphasis on two independent pathways: one involving primarily platelets and the other initiated by tissue factor.

ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. In the USA, the development of an organized STEMI network has allowed STEMI patients greater access to primary PCI. The most important goal in the management of STEMI is timely reperfusion and establishment of normal coronary flow.

Thrombus formation, including platelet adhesion, activation, secretion and aggregation as well as tissue factor-initiated thrombin generation and fibrin formation, has been studied in the past using in vitro systems, often with isolated components.
