Thrust Forces in Underwater Swimming
Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1965Instantaneous and mean static thrust levels were measured for eight underwater swimmers restrained in a submerged force platform. Swimming was examined barefoot and with two types of fins. The main beneficial effect of the fins was to eliminate the substantial negative thrust component associated with barefoot swimming.

The Traceable Calibration of Thrust Stand by Electrostatic Force
Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2022Micro thrusters have important applications in low-frequency gravitational wave detection, satellite formation, and inter-satellite laser communication, so it is necessary to accurately measure the thrust of micro thrusters with traceability. A thrust stand is a widely used micro thrust measuring device with the advantages of high resolution and large ...

Thrust Measurement Using Force Sensitive Resistor
2017 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research (ICCIC), 2017Mini/micro nozzles are used in digital propulsion systems for generating milli/micro thrust. Such systems are used in satellites for precise control and positioning. The measurement of milli thrust which is of the order of few Newton requires specialized measuring systems.

Measuring Leg Thrust Forces in the Common Starling
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1996ABSTRACT We describe the design of a force-transducing perch which measures the reaction forces of small birds taking off and landing. In common starlings, landing forces are lower than take-off forces, because the bird may decelerate prior to landing by using its wings.

Thrust force characterization of free-swimming soft robotic jellyfish
Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, 2018Five unique soft robotic jellyfish were manufactured with eight pneumatic network tentacle actuators extending radially from their centers. These jellyfish robots were able to freely swim untethered in the ocean, to steer from side to side, and to swim through orifices more narrow than the nominal diameter of the jellyfish.

Evaluation of Subcooled Water Thrust Forces
Nuclear Technology, 1976Subcooled water thrust forces for use in pipe rupture analyses have been normalized with respect to an enthalpy normalization factor. This normalization is based on comparisons with thrust forces calculated using the Henry-Fauske model, and the answers are within +-3 percent in the range 300 to 2400 psia (21.1 to 168.7 kg/cm/sup 2/).

This paper introduces a novel linear vernier permanent magnet machine (H-LVPMM) with high force density and low force ripple. The permanent magnets (PMs) on secondary uses Halbach array, which can provide a larger flux density in the air gap than that of the conventional surface-mounted PMs configurations, and the primary is composed of three modules ...

Increased Jet Thrust from Pressure Forces
Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1950For ram-jets and turbojets, which operate with low overall jet expansion ratios, it is possible to obtain more thrust with incomplete expansion in the jet nozzle utilizing both pressure and momentum forces than with complete expansion utilizing momentum forces alone.

Thrust Force Analyses in Drilling FRP Composites
2020Whenever fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are drilled to produce a hole, it is necessary to obtain the desired dimensional requirements with minimal surface and sub-surface damage. A number of complications arise in this process, such as multiphase laminated materials (hard reinforced fibers within soft polymer matrix) and complex cutting ...
