Parameterizations for global thundercloud corona discharge distributions [PDF]
Four parameterizations, distinguishing between land and ocean, have been developed to simulate global distributions of thundercloud streamer corona discharges (also known as Blue LUminous Events or BLUEs) mainly producing bluish optical emissions ...

Determining Electric Fields in Thunderclouds With the Radiotelescope LOFAR [PDF]
AbstractAn analysis is presented of electric fields in thunderclouds using a recently proposed method based on measuring radio emission from extensive air shower events during thunderstorm conditions. This method can be regarded as a tomography of thunderclouds using cosmic rays as probes.

Citizen Science Observation of a Gamma‐Ray Glow Associated With the Initiation of a Lightning Flash
Gamma‐ray glows are observational evidence of relativistic electron acceleration due to the electric field in thunderclouds. However, it is yet to be understood whether such relativistic electrons contribute to the initiation of lightning discharges.

A recent study pointed out that macroscopic dark matter (macros) traversing through the Earth’s atmosphere can give rise to hot and ionized channels similar to those associated with lightning leaders. The authors of the study investigated the possibility

Study of Positive Corona Discharge of Needle Plate Electrodes in Airflow
ABSTRACT For high‐speed moving objects such as aircraft and wind turbine blades, discharge occurs under strong airflow. Research on lightning attachment characteristics has been extensive, whereas the role of corona discharge in pre‐breakdown streamer development has received less attention.

Prestroke radiation from thunderclouds [PDF]
Thunderstorm weather and individual cells were observed and their RF radiations recorded for frequencies with approximately decade spacings from 10 khz to 1000 Mhz. Antennas were nondirectional, but positive results were obtained for the three cases in the summer of 1964 when only single cells were detectable in the vicinity of the observation station.

Observation of gamma ray bursts at ground level under the thunderclouds
We observed three γ-ray bursts related to thunderclouds in winter using the prototype of anti-neutrino detector PANDA made of 360-kg plastic scintillator deployed at Ohi Power Station at the coastal area of the Japan Sea.
