Mechanisms of Projected Changes in Thunderstorm Downburst Environments Across the United States
Responses of downdraft convective available potential energy (DCAPE) to global warming were investigated using the Community Earth System Model (CESM2) under a high‐emission scenario through the year 2100.

Transient Thunderstorm Downbursts and Their Effects on Wind Turbines [PDF]
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standard 61400-1 for the design of wind turbines does not explicitly address site-specific conditions associated with anomalous atmospheric events or conditions.

Thunderstorm Downbursts and Wind Loading of Structures: Progress and Prospect [PDF]
In 1961, Davenport published a paper, considered by most to be a critical work in the study of wind engineering, in which meteorology, micrometeorology, climatology, aerodynamics, and structural dynamics were embedded in a homogeneous framework of the ...

Full‐scale measurements of thunderstorm outflows in the Northern Mediterranean
Downbursts are severe wind systems originating from thunderstorm clouds, and their strong horizontal outflows can pose serious hazards to natural and built environments.

On Wind Turbine Loads During Thunderstorm Downbursts in Contrasting Atmospheric Stability Regimes [PDF]
Severe winds produced by thunderstorm downbursts pose a serious risk to the structural integrity of wind turbines. However, guidelines for wind turbine design (such as the International Electrotechnical Commission Standard, IEC 61400-1) do not describe ...

Design Spectra for Evaluating the Dynamic Response of Buildings Under Thunderstorm Downbursts
This paper presents a spectral method to determine the effect of thunderstorm downbursts on structures. The method integrates the dynamic response of single oscillators subject to input accelerations induced by wind, based on classical earthquake ...

Investigation of Atmospheric Conditions Associated with a Storm Surge in the South-West of Iran
Severe thunderstorms are often accompanied by strong vertical air currents, temporary wind gusts, and heavy rainfall. The development of this atmospheric phenomenon over tropical shallow water zones, such as bays, can lead to intensification of ...

Downburst-producing thunderstorms in southern Germany: Radar analysis and predictability [PDF]
Three days with downburst-producing thunderstorms during the VERTIKATOR intensive observation period in June and July 2002 are studied by means of the C-band polarisation diversity radar POLDIRAD and its network of three bistatic receivers. We present the first wind vector fields from a downburst measured by such a bistatic network.
