Abstract This article examines how salient sustainability risks from near‐miss natural disasters influence board composition. Using a difference‐in‐differences design, I find that firms located in counties neighboring disaster‐affected areas significantly increase the presence of directors with sustainability expertise following the disaster.

Aerodynamic characteristics of the train traversing the thunderstorm downburst wind field
To investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of the high-speed train as it traverses the thunderstorm downburst wind, a special test device was used to simulate the thunderstorm downburst wind field.

Are large high-altitude electric fields caused by global thunderstorms? [PDF]
Using the model of a spherical symmetric atmosphere the large-scale electric fields generated by the global thunderstorms are investigated. Theoretical formulations have been developed to calculate high-altitude electric fields due to global thunderstorms, taking into account the presence of the ionosphere.

Optically perceptible characteristics of sprites observed in Central Europe in 2007–2009
Sprites are luminous optical emissions accompanying electric discharges in the mesosphere. 489 sprite events have been observed with a TV frame rate video system in Central Europe from Sopron (47.68 °N, 16.58 °E, ~230m MSL), Hungary between 2007 and 2009.

Observations of Electric Fields Sounding in the Mature Stage of a Thunderstorm
Successive electric field soundings separated by only 6 min provided a rare view of charge structure of a mature thunderstorm. The observations reveal horizontally inhomogeneous charge regions, an unusually deep upper negative layer, and charge features that cannot be readily explained by current thunderstorm electrification mechanisms. ABSTRACT In the

ABSTRACT The raindrop size distribution (DSD) plays an essential role in understanding rain attenuation effects at extremely high frequencies (EHFs). Over 1 year of DSD measurements was taken at different Köppen–Geiger climate classifications within the United States. Optical disdrometers from Thies Clima were used to measure both the size and velocity

A rare winter thunderstorm event near Hong Kong
A rare winter thunderstorm event near Hong Kong is documented in this paper. The thunderstorm occurrence was confirmed by the observation of one of the authors and lightning location information systems (both regional and global).

New particle formation by ion-induced nucleation during dissipation stage of thunderstorm [PDF]
A case of new particle formation observed during dissipation stage of a thunderstorm at a tropical station, Pune, India on 3 June 2008 is reported. The flash rate and rainfall intensity increased as high as 110 flashes per 5 minutes and 150 mm hour-1 ...
