Notes on helminth parasites of tuna fishes (Scombridae) in Brazil Notas sobre los helmintos parásitos del atún (Scombridae) en Brasil

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2012
Four species of Scombridae from the coast of Rio de Janeiro, southwest Atlantic Ocean were found to be parasitized with species of Didymozoidae (Digenea): Thunnus atlanticus (Lesson) a new host record for Nephrodidymotrema ahi Yamaguti, 1970 ...

Gummies as a Novel Approach to Valorize Rainbow Trout Wastes

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In this study, a potential waste management strategy was developed for the evaluation of marine and freshwater fish waste, which is chemically very similar. To this end, an unmet need has been addressed by converting by‐products from rainbow trout, a cold‐water fish, into functional and nutritious ingredients.

Evidence for a fisher‐designed solution to manta and devil ray bycatch in tuna fisheries

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Bycatch in global tropical tuna purse seine fisheries represents a significant source of mortality for manta and devil rays (mobulids), which are globally threatened. Use of best handling and rapid release practices on purse seine vessels can substantially reduce mortality and improve vulnerability status for mobulids.

Estimating non‐US longline fishing impacts on Hawai‘i pelagic false killer whales in a transboundary assessment area

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
Downscaling Regional Fishery Management Organization reported longline effort data using fine‐scale Global Fishing Watch effort estimates facilitates estimates of non‐US effort within a transboundary management area. These effort estimates are then used to predict interaction with the Hawai‘i pelagic false killer whale in non‐US fleets, reducing ...

Integration of Multiple Data Types to Document Spatial Effort in a Recreational Fishery for Highly Migratory Species in Relation to Offshore Wind Development

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 35, Issue 1, Page 33-48, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The expansion of offshore wind interests in US waters has raised concern over potential adverse impacts to fisheries activity and productivity. Yet evidence‐based platforms for assessing those impacts are lacking for many recreational fisheries.

Ecological Niche Changes of Two Sympatric Species (Pennahia argentata and Larimichthys polyactis) Revealed by Bulk and Compound Specific Isotope Analyses

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
We investigated trophic interactions between two sympatric fish species, Pennahia argentata and Larimichthys polyactis, using bulk and compound‐specific stable isotope analyses. CSIA of amino acids revealed similar trophic positions but distinct δ15N baselines, indicating ontogenetic niche shifts and offshore migration patterns.

Combining motility and bioluminescent signalling aids mate finding in deep-sea fish: a simulation study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a model to estimate the mean time required for mate finding among deep-sea fish as a function of motility and the extent of bioluminescent signalling.

Biology of Albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga, Bonnaterre 1788) off the South West Coast of South Africa

open access: yes, 2013
Albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga) is a highly migratory species found in all of the worlds oceans. The origin of albacore south of Africa is in question. This species constituted 85% of catches of the South African commercial tuna fishing fleet from 2000 ...
