Static VAr Compensators can provide significant improvement in power system stability. Phasor Measurement Units are used in combination with SVCs for fast and reliable control of its operation. By combining the VAr control and Voltage Regulation control methods of the SVC, superior performance is obtained.

Metal-oxide-varistor (MOV) devices, connected in parallel have been used to protect the series compensation against overvoltage during faults. The MOV-protected series compensation increases the complexity of fault analysis and device protection. Hence the performance evaluation of distance protection scheme in the presence of Flexible Alternating ...

Series and Shunt Reactive compensation can be used to improve voltage stability. The L‐index and Fast Voltage Stability Index are used to evaluate stability. Cost of reactive compensation is included directly in the optimization process. Multi‐objective optimization determines the optimal sizing of FACTS devices.

Power Flow Control in Power System Using FACT Device Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC)
In modern days due to the ever increasing demand for power in expansion of transmission network, the transmission line are to be operated under loaded condition and there is a risk of power flow control and voltage instability. This paper proposes power flow control in a power system network by incorporating TCSC and SVC devices.

The impedance sensitivity of the doubly‐fed induction generator (DFIG) grid‐connected system with series compensation is analysed using the Morris method and the extended Fourier amplitude sensitivity test (EFAST). A cooperative optimisation approach is proposed to adjust high‐sensitivity parameters, thereby suppressing sub‐synchronous oscillations ...
