Pretibial myxedema, more generally thyroid dermopathy, results from mucopolysaccharide accumulation in the dermis, typically between the knee and dorsal foot. Thyroid dermopathy presents in Graves disease, but can occur in Hashimoto thyroiditis, primary hypothyroidism, and euthyroid patients.
