Laboratory evaluation of thyroid function: Dilemmas and pitfalls

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 2016
Among all endocrine disorders, thyroid dysfunction is possibly most common endocrine disorder barring obesity. This implies that thyroid function tests (TFT) are routinely ordered for laboratory test for its evaluation.

Thyroid Function Tests in Preeclampsia

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The thyroid hormones are protein-bound in the serum, and only 0.02% of T4 and 0.2% of T3 are free, biologically active hormones. 45–70% of thyroid hormones are bound to thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), and the rest to transthyretin and ...

A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

Novel associations for hypothyroidism include known autoimmune risk loci

open access: yes, 2011
Hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid disorder, affecting about 5% of the general population. Here we present the first large genome-wide association study of hypothyroidism, in 2,564 cases and 24,448 controls from the customer base of 23andMe, Inc.,

Dual‐Physical‐Field Nanocatalysis: Injectable Hydrogel Enables Piezo‐Photothermal Synergy for Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Piezocatalytic therapy (PCT) harnesses mechanical energy to generate tumor‐lethal reactive oxygen species (ROS), but its efficacy is limited by rapid electron‐hole recombination and poor intratumoral retention. To overcome these limitations, we engineered heterostructured BiOCl@CuO nanosheets embedded in an injectable, conductive ...

Targeting METTL3 Attenuates Thyroid Inflammatory Injury by Restoring Th17/Treg Balance through a YTHDC2‐m6A‐Dependent KDR/VEGFA Loop

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
METTL3‐mediated m6A modification stabilizes KDR/Kdr mRNA through YTHDC2, amplifying the VEGFA‐KDR feedback loop and disturbing Th17/Treg balance. This pathway promotes persistent inflammation and tissue damage in patients with AIT, and inhibiting the METTL3‐KDR axis effectively disrupts this circuit, alleviating thyroid tissue injury and disease ...

Exploring reasons for variation in ordering thyroid function tests in primary care: a qualitative study

open access: yes, 2014
Background: The ordering of thyroid function tests (TFTs) is increasing but there is not a similar increase in thyroid disorders in the general population, leading some to query whether inappropriate testing is taking place.
