Radioisotope Scanning of the Thyroid
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1967In 1951 Cassen reported the successful imaging of the thyroid gland by means of compounds containing radioactive iodine and a mechanical moving detector. The many technical advances in radioisotope detectors which has occurred since then, as well as our greater knowledge of thyroid pathophysiology, have improved the thyroid scan so that today it is an ...

Seminars in Nuclear Medicine, 1981
T HIS 70-yr-old female was referred for thyroid scanning because of a mass in her neck of increasing size over a 2-yr period. Physical exam revealed 3 x 4 cm mass in the right lower pole. A 2-hr and 24-hr uptake was obtained after the oral administration of 112.5 uCi of 123I.

The 125I thyroid scan: Clinicopathologic correlation
International Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 1975For a 3built12 year period during which 125I was used as the routine agent for thyroid imaging, 95 cases of thyroid disease were reviewed in which a tissue diagnosis was obtained. The scan findings were usually distinctive in the cases of diffuse hyperplasia, but were of little help in separating the carcinomas from the nodular goiters or adenomas ...

THE THYROID SCAN IN PATIENTS WITH HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE
Acta Endocrinologica, 1966ABSTRACT The incidence of asymmetrical thyroid scans as measured by hand scanning over the thyroid with a Geiger Muller tube has been investigated in 32 patients with Hashimoto's disease in whom the thyroid gland was hard or nodular or in whom cancer was suspected clinically. In 19 of 32 patients the thyroid scanned asymmetrically.

Determination of thyroid volume by ultrasonic scanning
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1974AbstractA method for thyroid volume calculation based upon ultrasonic scanning is described. The accuracy of the method was estimated by comparing ultrasonically determined volumes with the volumes of surgically removed thyroid glands. The precision (i.e., reproducibility) was estimated by comparing the ultrasonic volumes determined by two separate ...

Rectilinear Thyroid Scanning as a Predictor of Malignancy
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1978Rectilinear scan findings were correlated with the surgically documented size, location, and histology of thyroid carcinoma in 67 patients. At the site of the carcinoma, 36 (54%) had hypofunction, associated with a palpable abnormality in all but one patient; 16 (24%) had an abnormality on palpation but not on scanning; 11 (16%) had both a normal ...

Thyroid Scanning with Technetium 99m Pertechnetate
Radiology, 1968Technetium 99m pertechnetate (99mTcO4−) is a useful radioactive label for thyroid scanning. It is of particular merit when emphasis is placed upon a low dose of thyroid radiation, optimal resolution, and scanning of thyroid glands in which function is decreased or partly blocked. Harper et at. (4) reported the first pertechnetate scan of the thyroid in
