Duplex scanning of the thyroid
Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1985High resolution ultrasound scanners are used to image nodular thyroid glands and in the study of thyroid malignancy. There are no specific ultrasonic characteristics of malignant lesions to distinguish them from benign conditions. Preliminary results using a Duplex ultrasound scanner shows that the detection of a high frequency Doppler-shift signal ...

The thyroid scan in Hashimotoʼs thyroiditis
Nuclear Medicine Communications, 1988We have reviewed our experience over the past 5 years of 32 thyroid scans in Hashimoto's thyroiditis. A wide variety of images were obtained, the most common finding being that of an enlarged gland with diffusely increased tracer uptake, a pattern identical to that found in Graves' disease (eight patients).

Limitations of thyroid scanning in solitary thyroid nodules
Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1994During an 8-year period, 104 patients (19 males, 85 females) underwent surgery for a solitary thyroid nodule. There were 19 (18.3%) malignant nodules and 85 (81.7%) benign nodules. Malignancy occurred in 3 (15.8%) males and 16 (18.8%) females. Pre-operative scanning was performed prior to referral in 59 patients (52 had ultrasound, 41 had isotope ...
