The Thyroxine-Binding Proteins
Thyroid, 2000The slow clearance, prolonged half-life, and high serum concentration of thyroxine (T4) are largely due to strong binding by the principal plasma thyroid hormone-binding proteins, thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), transthyretin (TTR), and albumin. These proteins, which shield the hydrophobic thyroid hormones from their aqueous environment, buffer a ...

Studies of thyroxine binding to plasma proteins in health and disease
Clinical Biochemistry, 1986Thyroxine binding protein characteristics were defined in 6 normal subjects, 4 with thyroxine binding globulin (TBG) deficiency, 3 with TBG increase, one with hyperthyroxinemic dysalbuminemia, 7 with severe non-thyroidal illness, and 3 with chronic renal failure.

Effect of Prednisone on Thyroxine-Binding Proteins
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1966Administration of high doses of prednisone to 5 patients resulted in a progressive increase in the maximal binding capacity of thyroxine-binding prealbumin (TBPA) and a simultaneous decline in the binding capacity of thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG). In every instance the lowest TBG binding capacity reached fell below the established normal range. In 2

A Thyroxine-Binding Protein in Human Breast Milk Similar to Serum Thyroxine-Binding Globulin*
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1983A thyroid hormone-binding substance (TBGw) similar to serum T4-binding globulin (TBG) has been identified in the whey fraction of human breast milk. TBGw coeluted with serum TBG, as determined by Bio-Gel P-100 chromatography, and has an isoelectric point of 4.2-4.8, similar to that of serum TBG.

Effect of Penicillin on Thyroxine-Binding by Plasma Proteins
Endocrinology, 1963Penicillin increases the dialysis of thyroxine-I131 across a semipermeable membrane from a compartment of diluted plasma to a compartment consisting of aqueous buffer. Penicillin also enhances the uptake of thyroxine-I131 by red cells incubated with plasma.

Thyroxine-binding proteins of duck and chicken sera
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1978Abstract Thyroxine-binding proteins of duck and chicken sera have been studied by a method of two-dimensional immunoelectrophoresis followed by labeling of the immunoprecipitated protein peaks with [ 125 I]thyroxine or [ 125 I]triiodothyronine. It is shown that binding occurs principally on lipoprotein components.
