Characterization of LENS-fabricated Ti6Al4V and Ti6Al4V/TiC dual-material transition joints
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2012The design of engineering structures with function-specific material members is on the increase. This requires advanced fabrication technologies with capabilities for multi-material processing. A major challenge however is obtaining effective transition from one material to another.

Microstructure and hardness of Ti6Al4V/NiAl/Ti6Al4V joints obtained through resistive heating
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2018Abstract Resistive heating of Ti6Al4V/NiAl/Ti6Al4V stack resulted in formation of two strips of new phases at the filler/Ti6Al4V interface. The thinner one, growing into filler material, consists of the NiAl(Ti) phase. Parts of thicker strip, being in a contact with α-Ti grains, are filled with the coarse crystalline α2-Ti3Al phase, while those ...

Thermomechanical modelling of dry friction at high velocity applied to a Ti6Al4V-Ti6Al4V tribopair
Tribology International, 2018Abstract A semi-analytical model is developed to predict thermal and mechanical responses of the contact surface during the dry friction of Ti6Al4V tribopair at high velocities. This model is achieved by solving thermal and mechanical problems separately, before coupling both interdependent solutions using the dissipation of mechanical work into heat.

Fretting corrosion of CoCrMo and Ti6Al4V interfaces
Biomaterials, 2012Mechanically assisted corrosion (fretting corrosion, tribocorrosion etc.,) of metallic biomaterials is a primary concern for numerous implant applications, particularly in the performance of highly-loaded medical devices. While the basic underlying concepts of fretting corrosion or tribocorrosion and fretting crevice corrosion are well known, there ...

Modification of Ti6Al4V surface by diazonium compounds
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2018Ti6Al4V alloy is the most commonly used in orthopedic industry as an endoprosthesis. Ti6Al4V exhibits good mechanical properties, except the abrasion resistance. Surface modification of Ti6Al4V in order to obtain organic layer, and then the attachment of the polymer, can allow for overcoming this problem.
