Comparison of TiAlN, AlCrN, and AlCrN/TiAlN coatings for cutting-tool applications
International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy, and Materials, 2014Monolayer and bilayer coatings of TiAlN, AlCrN, and AlCrN/TiAlN were deposited onto tungsten carbide inserts using the plasma enhanced physical vapor deposition process. The microstructures of the coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The SEM micrographs revealed that the AlCrN and AlCrN/

Electrochemical characteristics of steel coated with TiN and TiAlN coatings
Corrosion Science, 2000Abstract The corrosion protection characteristics of titanium nitride (TiN) and titanium–aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coatings produced on cemented carbon steel targets were investigated in aqueous sodium chloride solution. All coatings were produced by cathodic arc plasma deposition.

Elastic stresses and microstructure of TiAlN coatings
Inorganic Materials: Applied Research, 2017By X-ray diffraction and transmission diffraction electron microscopy methods, the phase composition, macro- and microstresses, and microstructure in a Ti1–x Al x N coating and a substrate were investigated. The coatings were deposited by magnetron sputtering of a Ti–Al target in an Ar +

Multilayer TiAlN coatings with composition gradient
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2002Abstract The fuzzy-logic process control system has been adapted to the unbalanced magnetron reactive sputter deposition of Ti1−xAlxN coatings. This made possible the dynamic control of the deposition rate, chemical composition and structure of the coatings and provided stable working conditions inside the hysteresis loop of the reactive sputtering ...

Tribological properties of TiAlN‐coated cermets
Rare Metals, 2009Abstract Ti(C,N)‐based cermets were coated with TiAlN using multi‐arc ion plating technology. Sliding wear tests were performed on the coated cermets. The microstructure and morphologies of the coated cermets before and after friction and wear tests were characterized.

High-temperature tribological characterization of commercial TiAlN coatings
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2006This study was performed with the aim of evaluating the relative tribological behaviour at high temperature of (Ti(1-x)Al(x))N coatings commercially deposited on WC inserts. The (Ti(1-x)Al(x))N multilayered, nanostructured and single-layer coatings, which contained different Ti/Al atomic ratios varying from 7/3 to 2/3 respectively, were deposited by ...

Metallurgical and mechanical characterization of TiCN/TiAlN and TiAlN/TiCN bilayer nitride coatings
Surfaces and Interfaces, 2019Abstract In the present work, attempt has been made to analyse the metallurgical and mechanical characterization of Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN) and Titanium Aluminium Nitride (TiAlN) duplex coatings. TiCN/TiAlN and TiAlN/TiCN bilayer combinations were deposited on cemented carbide cutting insert substrates by means of the cathodic arc physical ...

Deposition of arc TiAlN coatings with pulsed bias
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1995Abstract It is a well-known fact that the aluminium content of TiAlN coatings deposited with the arc physical vapour deposition (PVD) process depends mainly on substrate potential and source-to-substrate distance. To achieve good results in cutting operations with TiAlN-coated tools with a low aluminium content in the film, it is necessary to deposit

Modeling Mechanical Properties of Multilayer Coatings TiAlN
Defect and Diffusion Forum, 2021The paper outlines two approaches (the ANSYS finite element modeling and the differential scheme of the self-consistency method) to model the mechanical properties of TiAlN multilayer coatings. To validate the experimental results, these findings were compared with the nanoindentation test results for single and multilayer coatings.
