Effects of TiAlN Coating Thickness on Machined Surface Roughness, Surface Residual Stresses, and Fatigue Life in Turning Inconel 718

open access: yesMetals
The surface roughness and surface residual stresses are affected by the coating thickness of physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN tools, which could alter the service performance of machined components.

Characterization and Tribological Behavior of TiAlN/TiAlCN Multilayer Coatings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tribology, 2018
Effects of partial pressure of methane on deposition rate, hardness, bonding strength and friction coefficient of TiAlN/TiAlC0.37N0.63 multilayer coating were investigated. The TiAlN coating was deposited at a N2 flow rate of 70 sccm, and TiAlC0.37N0.63 coating were deposited at a N2 flow rate of 35 sccm and a CH4 flow rate of 35 sccm.

CVD TiAlN coatings with tunable nanolamella architectures [PDF]

open access: yesSurface and Coatings Technology, 2021
Abstract In this work, Ti1-xAlxN (TiAlN) coatings were synthesized by low pressure chemical vapour deposition (LPCVD), and the influence of a rotational precursor gas supply on the coating microstructure was studied. The microstructure of the TiAlN coatings were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning and transmission electron ...

Stress-Dependent Elasticity of TiAlN Coatings [PDF]

open access: yesCoatings, 2019
We investigate the effect of continuous vs. periodically interrupted plasma exposure during cathodic arc evaporation on the elastic modulus as well as the residual stress state of metastable cubic TiAlN coatings. Nanoindentation reveals that the elastic modulus of TiAlN grown at floating potential with continuous plasma exposure is 7%–11% larger than ...

Mechanical properties of multilayer coatings TiAlN

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract This study aims to examine multilayer TiAlN coatings. The mechanical properties of the coatings were obtained based on micromechanics methods and finite element modeling of a representative volume of a layered medium in ANSYS. Our findings are in line with the data on coating nanoindentation.
