Theoretical study on gas‐phase reactions during chemical vapor deposition of TixAl1–xN from TiCl4, AlCl3, and NH3

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Kinetics, Volume 57, Issue 1, Page 3-15, January 2025.
Abstract Fcc‐TixAl1–xN (TiAlN) coatings synthesized via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reduce cutting tool wear. Although CVD conditions reportedly influence coating quality, no quantitative guidelines are yet available. To quantitatively study the film‐forming mechanism of TiAlN CVD, the gas composition over the surface must be known.

Residual Stress Analysis in High‐Speed Physical Vapor Deposition Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 24, December 2024.
Studies have examined residual stress in coatings from conventional physical vapor deposition techniques. High‐speed PVD (HS‐PVD) works based on hollow cathode sputtering. This research analyzes HS‐PVD coating stresses on substrates like WC‐Co and steel, exploring various coating systems and process parameters. Results show higher adhesion with thicker
