Discovery of Staircase delta Scuti Variables [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Analysis of the previously classified delta Scuti variable star MW Camelopardalis using data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Telescope sparked a deeper inquiry due to the unexpected patterns within the target's observed-calculated graph. From the shape of the O-C diagram we have designed these objects as Staircase delta Scuti.

Displaying Things in Common to Encourage Friendship Formation: A Large Randomized Field Experiment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Friendship formation is important to online social network sites and to society, but can suffer from informational friction. In this study, we demonstrate that social networks may effectively use an IT-facilitated intervention -- displaying things in common (TIC) between users (mutual hometown, interest, education, work, city) -- to encourage ...

Two high-amplitude $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus hybrids constrained by the radial fundamental p and equally spaced g modes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Based on 2-minute cadence TESS data, we investigate pulsations of TIC 65138566 and TIC 139729335 and discover them to be two new HADS stars with equally spaced g modes. We recognize the radial fundamental mode $f_1$ = 18.3334 c/d and the first overtone $f_3$ = 23.6429 c/d for TIC 65138566, and identify the highest peak $f_1$ = 19.0955 c/d as the radial

Development and Preliminary Validation of a Parkinsonism‐Dystonia Scale for Infants and Young Children

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Parkinsonism in infancy is rare and is highly correlated with the presence of dystonia. Advances in treating and characterizing developmental and infantile degenerative parkinsonism have highlighted the need for a specialized assessment scale.

The Secrets of Notakto: Winning at X-only Tic-Tac-Toe [PDF]

open access: yesRecreational Mathematics Magazine, vol I (2014), pgs 49-54, 2013
We analyze misere play of impartial tic-tac-toe---a game suggested by Bob Koca in which both players make X's on the board, and the first player to complete three-in-a-row loses. This game was recently discussed on mathoverflow.net in a thread created by Timothy Y. Chow.
