Chimeric Yellow Fever/Dengue Virus as a Candidate Dengue Vaccine: Quantitation of the Dengue Virus-Specific CD8 T-Cell Response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We have constructed a chimeric yellow fever/dengue (YF/DEN) virus, which expresses the premembrane (prM) and envelope (E) genes from DEN type 2 (DEN-2) virus in a YF virus (YFV-17D) genetic background. Immunization of BALB/c mice with this chimeric virus

Blood donor West Nile virus screening identifies three autochthonous Usutu virus infections in Spain

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Considering the increase of West Nile virus (WNV) circulation in Europe, blood banks perform WNV Nucleic Acid Test testing to ensure transfusion safety during the WNV transmission season. Usutu virus (USUV), an arbovirus related to WNV, has relevant molecular and serological cross‐reactivity with WNV. Study Design and Methods During

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), is the disease still dangerous?

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2022
Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV)  belongs to the family Flaviviridae. Flaviviruses are 50 nm viruses having a membrane envelope with an RNA genome. The vector of TBEV is the common tick (Ixodes ricinus) prevalent mainly in Europe.

A natural barrier: tick‐repellent potential of a spruce‐derived volatile blend against Hyalomma excavatum and Ixodes ricinus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 2, Page 1481-1491, February 2026.
Both active and passive questing ticks, Hyalomma excavatum and Ixodes ricinus, were assessed for behavioural responses to two novel plant‐derived repellent volatile organic compound blends. Both tick species were repelled by the products, and both novo blends were significantly more repellent than currently available commercial products.

Molecular Screening of Black Flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) for Vector‐Borne Zoonotic Pathogens, South Moravia, Czech Republic

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 73, Issue 1, Page 95-106, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Black flies (Simuliidae) are globally distributed blood‐feeding arthropods and vectors of viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens to many animal species, including humans. We investigated the occurrence of selected vector‐borne pathogens in black flies in South Moravia, Czech Republic, and evaluated their possible role in the ...

Predictive Modelling of Tick Distribution: A Machine Learning Approach to Ixodes ricinus Abundance

open access: yesConcurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Volume 38, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The resurgence of tick‐borne diseases necessitates predictive frameworks that integrate both high accuracy and ecological relevance. This study develops a comprehensive machine learning pipeline to forecast the occurrence of Ixodes ricinus, a principal tick vector in Europe, leveraging high‐dimensional climatic, environmental, and land‐use ...
