Proteolytic activation of tick-borne encephalitis virus by furin [PDF]
Flaviviruses are assembled intracellularly in an immature form containing heterodimers of two envelope proteins, E and prM. Shortly before the virion exits the cell, prM is cleaved by a cellular enzyme, and this processing step can be blocked by treatment with agents that raise the pH of exocytic compartments.

THE ARTHROPOD-BORNE ENCEPHALITIS VIRUSES, THE NEGLECTED SERIOUS DISEASES [PDF]
Arthropod-borne encephalitis viruses are highly adapted to a particular reservoir host. Viruses spread from animal to animal by an infected specific mosquito or tick species.

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

A New Tick-borne Encephalitis-like Virus Infecting New England Deer Ticks, Ixodes dammini
To determine if eastern North American Ixodes dammini, like related ticks in Eurasia, maintain tick-borne encephalitis group viruses, we analyzed ticks collected from sites where the agent of Lyme disease is zoonotic.

An international study on emerging arboviral infections and blood safety
Abstract Background Emerging and re‐emerging arboviral infections are a risk to blood safety. We conducted an international survey on how blood establishments respond to current and future arbovirus threats. Study Design and Methods A questionnaire on arbovirus donor deferral strategies, pathogen reduction, and donation screening was distributed to ...

Novel variants of tick-borne encephalitis virus from patient and tick samples in Norway [PDF]
The annual number of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) cases in Norway has increased dramatically from 1 case in 1998 to 113 in 2023. Characterization of TBE virus (TBEV) genomes from both clinical samples and tick vectors is necessary to understand disease ...

Unusual MRI features in a case of presumed canine tick‐borne meningoencephalomyelitis
Abstract A 7‐year‐old, standard, wire‐haired dachshund presented with quickly progressive multifocal central nervous system signs, which localised to the brainstem and cervical myelopathy, including reduced cervical and thoracic limb muscle tone and withdrawal reflexes. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral, approximately symmetric, T2‐weighted
