Fisheries Research, 2014 Abstract Pulse trawling is used to a growing extent in the Dutch flatfish beam trawl fleet, and deemed as a promising alternative to tickler chain beam trawling. A comparative fishing experiment was carried out with one vessel using conventional beam trawls, and the other two using flatfish pulse trawls supplied by two different companies.

Of the short link chains made of 3.2 mm, 4.8 mm and 6.2 mm rods the second was observed to increase the yield of shrimp in the net and without in any way adversely affecting the performance of the gear.
