Dutch tidal flats

Sedimentary Geology, 1977
Abstract Physiographic elements and their sediments of the tidal-flat environment are given both from the classical Wadden Sea in the northern part of The Netherlands and from the estuarial areas in the southwest. Sedimentary processes are briefly mentioned.

Tidal flat areas

1988
Tidal flat areas are parts of estuaries without macrophyte growth which emerge at low tide, excluding beaches which differ from tidal flats by the dominance of surf. Macrophytes mostly form the high tide and tidal creeks the low tide boundary.

Evolution of tidal flats in China and ecological exploitation of tidal flat resources

Environmental Earth Sciences, 2012
Tidal flats play a tremendous role for solving the problem of land use because of the crisis of population increments. Many coastal countries have carried out reclamation projects near seas in various degrees for a long time. China currently has about 2.13 million hm2 of tidal flats that are mainly scattered in the delta plains and coastal regions near

The global distribution and trajectory of tidal flats

Nature, 2018
Increasing human populations around the global coastline have caused extensive loss, degradation and fragmentation of coastal ecosystems, threatening the delivery of important ecosystem services1. As a result, alarming losses of mangrove, coral reef, seagrass, kelp forest and coastal marsh ecosystems have occurred1-6.

Tidal Flats: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1969
Tidal flats are built of marine sediments intersected by runnels and channels in a specific vertical sequence. Bidirectional current marks and subaerial features complete the environmental indicators. Sediments in the intertidal zone lie between high- and low-water line across a vertical distance of 1-4 m or more, depending on the tidal range.

Tidal Channels on Tidal Flats and Marshes

2011
In shallow coastal settings channels provide a pathway for the tide to propagate and are, thus, a primary control on the sedimentation and ecology of these environments. Being shaped by bidirectional flows, tidal channels exhibit morphologies, which, despite apparent similarities, bear significant and fundamental differences to fluvial channels ...

What is tidal flat?

2003
Wave and current energies are important factors in determining the physicochemical and biological conditions in coastal ecosystem. Sandy beach develops in the area of very high physical energies facing open ocean where coarse grained sands make beach and sediments are completely oxidized.

Tidal Flats in China

1994
Tidal flats in China occur on a larger scale and are associated with two different types of coast. The total length of coastline represented by tidal flat is about 4000 km long. The tidal flat coast is dominated by tidal processes and is often associated with a large sediment supply.

Holocene Carbonate Tidal Flats

2011
Carbonate tidal flats of the Bahamian archipelago and the Arabian Gulf have served as important analogs for interpreting and understanding ancient tidal flat systems. Geomorphic associations include well-zoned subtidal, intertidal, and supratidal environments and their deposits, each with distinctive associations of biota and biologic and physical ...
