Tidal currents and mixing in the Lake Maracaibo estuarine system
The Lake Maracaibo estuarine system is a cooscillating coupled ocean-lake system connected through a partially mixed estuary. In this paper we examine the low frequency movements (w < 0.1 cycles/day) in the different water bodies within this system.

Confusion around the tidal force and the centrifugal force
We discuss the tidal force, whose notion is sometimes misunderstood in the public domain literature. We discuss the tidal force exerted by a secondary point mass on an extended primary body such as the Earth. The tidal force arises because the gravitational force exerted on the extended body by the secondary mass is not uniform across the primary.

Three biobased membranes are synthesized by crosslinking oxidized Kraft lignin with poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether of increasing molecular weights. After incorporation of solvated potassium salts, potassium batteries including these biobased gel polymer electrolytes are able to deliver a maximum specific capacity at 0.05 A g−1 as high as 130 ...

On compressive radial tidal forces [PDF]
Radial tidal forces can be compressive instead of disruptive, a possibility that is frequently overlooked in high level physics courses. For example, radial tidal compression can emerge in extended stellar systems containing a smaller stellar cluster. For particular conditions the tidal field produced by this extended mass distribution can exert on the

Modelling the response of ice shelf basal melting to different ocean cavity environmental regimes
We present simulation results from a version of the Regional Ocean Modeling System modified for ice shelf/ocean interaction, including the parameterisation of basal melting by molecular diffusion alone.

On the relation between tidal and forced spirometry
Spirometry is a lung function test involving deep inhalation and forceful deep exhalation. It is widely used to obtain objective information about airflow limitation and to diagnose lung diseases. In contrast, tidal spirometry is based on normal breathing and therefore much more convenient, but it is hardly used in medical care and its relation with ...

Tidal Forces and the Formation of Hurricanes [PDF]
MAY I raise the following question: “Do tidal forces affect the formation of hurricanes?” If one examines the changing direction of the tidal force due to the sun and a moon near new (or full) on an August day, say, as this force acts on a small element of air located at a point south of the sub-solar latitude and north of the equator, one finds the ...

Defect‐Engineered SrTiO3‐x for Flexoelectric‐Dominated Catalysis
Defect‐engineered SrTiO3‐x nanoparticles with enhanced flexoelectricity efficiently degrade pollutants and produce hydrogen under ultrasound‐driven flexocatalysis. This materials–engineering approach offers a scalable pathway for combining environmental remediation and renewable energy applications. ABSTRACT Flexocatalysis provides an alternative route

Response of three-dimensional ideal estuarine salt intrusion to changes in river and tidal forcing
In order to explore the response of estuarine salt intrusion to river and tidal forcing as well as water depth under the influence of human activities and climatic changes, a three-dimensional numerical salinity model for three-dimensional ideal ...
