Performance of a compact end-tidal forcing system

open access: yesRespiratory Physiology & Neurobiology, 2009
The purpose of the present study was to develop and validate a new compact, portable end-tidal forcing (ETF) system capable of reliably controlling end-tidal gases. The system consists of compressed gas sources (air, N(2) and CO(2)) that are connected via three solenoid valves to a humidification chamber and an inspiratory reservoir bag from which the ...

Tidal dynamics in palaeo‐seas in response to changes in physiography, tidal forcing and bed shear stress [PDF]

open access: yesSedimentology, 2022
Simulating hydrodynamic conditions in palaeo-ocean basins is needed to better understand the effects of tidal forcing on the sedimentary record. When combined with sedimentary analyses, hydrodynamic modelling can help inform complex temporal and spatial ...

Effect of tidal forcing on a subterranean estuary

open access: yesAdvances in Water Resources, 2007
Groundwater flow and chemical transport in subterranean estuaries are poorly understood despite their potentially important implications for chemical fluxes from aquifers to coastal waters.

Regional scale impact of tidal forcing on groundwater flow in unconfined coastal aquifers

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology, 2014
This paper considers the impact of tidal forcing on regional groundwater flow in an unconfined coastal aquifer. Numerical models are used to quantify this impact for a wide range of hydrogeological conditions.

GEOMETRICAL PROPERTIES OF ELECTROMAGNETIC TIDAL FORCES

International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2010
In general, elementary particles as well as extensive bodies have internal degrees of freedom that naturally turn their trajectories into accelerated curves. Hence, we propose to describe the kinematical properties of nongeodesic congruences and study how tidal forces are modified.

A tidal force pendulum

American Journal of Physics, 1983
A tidal force pendulum is presented. Its period is calculated in three different ways: (a) by means of the spin equation, (b) using the Lagrangian formalism, and (c) by means of the equation for geodesic deviation. The period of the pendulum is independent of its length. It depends only upon the curvature of space-time at the position of the pendulum.

Tidal force observations

Geophysics, 1940
Abstract Observations of the tidal variation of gravity at Tulsa, Oklahoma, are presented for the period December 10 to December 16, 1939. A good correlation is found between observed and calculated values with the factor (1+h-3 k/2) = 1.2.

Tidal force from cosmic strings

Physical Review D, 1989
We find the tidal force from the class of cosmic-string traveling waves of Vachaspati. The tidal force from a straight string vanishes. In contrast the tidal force from the curved strings treated here actually diverges as the string is approached. This tends to change the implications of a recent paper by Clarke, Ellis, and Vickers on the relation ...

Relativistic Tidal Forces and the Possibility of Measuring Them.

Physical Review Letters, 1982
The relativistic corrections to the Newtonian tidal accelerations generated by a rotating system are studied. The possibility of testing the relativistic theory of gravitation by measuring such effects in a laboratory in orbit around the Earth is considered.

On the tidal force of the Moon on the Earth

European Journal of Physics, 2005
Here, first, the static formulation of tidal forces with completely spherical symmetry is reviewed (a differential calculus-based method is additionally introduced for readers with more familiarity with/interest in mathematical tools). Then, the result is generalized to the tidal force of the Moon acting on the Earth by considering the rotational ...
