Soil temperature regulates biogeochemical processes and is a key environmental factor affecting salt marsh ecosystems. Previous studies on soil temperature and heat transport in intertidal marshes predominantly focused on short‐term changes, leaving ...

Accurate assessment of salt marsh dynamics is crucial to reverse their widespread decline. Previous modelling studies investigated the resilience to mean sea level rise, ignoring the tidal dynamics observed in many estuaries.

Restoration has been promoted as an important strategy to reverse the decline of salt marsh ecosystems. Physical and biological processes limiting the colonization of bare tidal flats by pioneer salt marsh species are commonly recognized.

Ecosystem engineers and functional dominance: when species loss matters for ecosystem function
Understanding when and why species loss affects community function in natural communities remains an open question in ecology. Recent cross‐system analyses have shown that functional dominance is associated with whether species loss matters: in communities dominated by few high‐performing species, lost species contribute little to function.

Bed level dynamics at the interface of the salt marsh and tidal flat have been highlighted as a key factor connecting the long-term bio-geomorphological development of the marsh to large-scale physical forcing.

The spatial distribution patterns of salt marsh plant communities and their biomass provide useful information for monitoring the stability and productivity of coastal salt marsh ecosystems in space and time.

ABSTRACT Tourism is a major driver of coastal economies worldwide, yet it is also a growing source of pressure on blue carbon ecosystems (BCEs) such as mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes. Nowadays, tourism‐led conservation/restoration is increasingly promoted under the banner of regenerative tourism, but how these projects are motivated ...

Edges of opportunity: tidal creek edge processes drive pioneer marsh vegetation establishment
Tidal marshes provide many critical ecosystem services, yet extensive losses have occurred due to human land use change. This has created a demand for tidal marsh restoration.

Disturbed salt marshes may recover with little additional management once tidal inundation is restored. We assessed the success of such recovery by comparing the invertebrate biota of Bay of Fundy salt marsh pools in a reference site at Dipper Harbour to

Factors influencing wintering turfgrass field use in Atlantic brant
Atlantic brant Branta bernicla hrota increasingly use turfgrass fields, such as baseball fields and golf courses, throughout their wintering range. Most studies have focused on their primary food source, submerged aquatic vegetation, while studies of other goose species worldwide have examined field use in different contexts, including agricultural ...
