Complementary Power Control for Doubly Fed Induction Generator-Based Tidal Stream Turbine Generation Plants

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
The latest forecasts on the upcoming effects of climate change are leading to a change in the worldwide power production model, with governments promoting clean and renewable energies, as is the case of tidal energy.

Analysis of the development of tidal energy and its implementation

open access: yesEnergy, Sustainability and Society
Background In the recent years, owing to the increasing carbon emissions from anthropogenic activities, the challenges caused by global climate change, including the greenhouse effect, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events, have become increasingly ...

Green Fuel Combustion Synthesis of CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver‐doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ag/CeO2 NPs) were synthesized using Ricinus communis seed extract as a bio‐derived fuel in a solution combustion method. The combustion reaction, carried out at 450°C with AgNO3 and (NH4)2[Ce (NO3)6] as metal precursors, produced CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 NPs.

Comprehensive evaluation method for tidal current power generation device

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2016
There are many types of tidal current power generation devices, and it is necessary to make comprehensive evaluation of tidal current power generation devices in order to provide valuable reference for the improvement of their performance indexes. On the

Three‐dimensional geometric morphometric analysis of diaphragmatic dome motion in COPD patients

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Diaphragmatic dysfunction is a hallmark of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in emphysema, where hyperinflation alters diaphragm geometry and impairs inspiratory mechanics. However, quantitative three‐dimensional (3D) assessments of diaphragmatic dome shape and motion across COPD phenotypes are limited.

A Systematic Analysis of Star Cluster Disruption by Tidal Shocks. II. Predicting Star Cluster Dissolution Rates from a Time-series Analysis of Their Tidal Histories

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Most of the dynamical mass loss from star clusters is thought to be caused by the time variability of the tidal field (“tidal shocks”). Systematic studies of tidal shocks have been hampered by the fact that each tidal history is unique, implying both a ...

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...
