ARDS: hidden perils of an overburdened diagnosis
A diagnosis of ARDS serves as a pretext for several perilous clinical practices. Clinical trials demonstrated that tidal volume 12 ml/kg increases patient mortality, but 6 ml/kg has not proven superior to 11 ml/kg or anything in between.

Tidally triggered galaxy formation. II - Galaxy number counts [PDF]
A model is presented for the evolution of the galaxy luminosity function in which the distribution of the galaxy masses, star formation time scales, and star formation turn-on redshifts is derived from the initial power spectrum of density fluctuations. The mass function of galaxy halos is very steep at low masses.

Variability of Tidal Volume in Patient-Triggered Mechanical Ventilation in ARDS [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Limiting tidal volume (V T ) in patients with ARDS may not be achieved once patient-triggered breaths occur. Furthermore, ICU ventilators offer numerous patient-triggered modes that work differently across brands.

The roles of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in the ventilatory responses during and after a hypercapnic gas challenge (HCC, 5% CO2, 21% O2, 74% N2) were assessed in freely-moving female and male wild-type (WT) C57BL6 mice and eNOS knock-out ...

Formation of offshore tidal sand banks triggered by a gasmined bed subsidence [PDF]
Offshore gasmining is an example of a human intervention with a morphological impact. On land, it is usually attended with a dish-like bed depression. We show that, if located at sea, such a bed depression can become morphodynamically active by triggering mechanisms related to tidal sand bank formation.

Lithospheric stress state in South America as inferred from tidal triggering of earthquakes

Hydraulic or Seepage Erosion: What Drives Bank Collapse in Tidal Environments?
The collapse of channel banks in tidal environments has typically been interpreted using fluvial concepts that prioritize hydraulic (flow‐driven) erosion.

The effect of earth tides as observed in seismo-electromagnetic precursory signals [PDF]
Studies on the effect of earth tides in triggering earthquakes (EQs) had a great progress in recent years, which has provided convincing evidence of earth tides in EQ triggering.

Tidal triggering of earthquakes in the Northeast Pacific Ocean [PDF]
SUMMARY There have been many searches for evidence of tidal triggering in earthquake catalogues. With the exception of volcanically active regions, the more rigorous studies in continental settings tend to find no correlation or only a very weak correlation. In the oceans, the effect of loading by the ocean tides can increase tidal stresses by about an

Transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation induces tidal melatonin secretion and has an antidiabetic effect in Zucker fatty rats. [PDF]
Melatonin plays a protective role in type 2 diabetes (T2D) through regulation of glucose metabolism. Whether transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is antidiabetic and whether a modulated melatonin production is involved in the antidiabetic ...
