Participatory Policy Development: Reflections on Designing the Strong Roots for Our Futures Program in Victoria

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we trace the journey to create the Strong Roots for our Futures Program, a government program to resource and support Traditional Owners to undertake a range of activities in areas where no state recognition existed. We provide a background to state recognition in Victoria before considering the program design, leading to an ...

Benthic diel oxygen variability and stress as potential drivers for animal diversification in the Neoproterozoic-Palaeozoic

open access: yesNature Communications
The delay between the origin of animals in the Neoproterozoic and their Cambrian diversification remains perplexing. Animal diversification mirrors an expansion in marine shelf area under a greenhouse climate, though the extent to which these ...

The Tide-Predicter [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1881
MR. EDWARD ROBERTS' letter in NATURE for April 14 contains statements giving an erroneous view of the origin of the tide predicter. Any one who feels sufficient interest in the subject to derive full information will find it in my paper on “The Tide-Gauge, Tidal Harmonic Analyser, and Tide-Predicter,” read before the Institution of Civil Engineers on ...

The Politics of Framing the Student Problem: Inquiries Into Australian Civics Education, 2006–2024

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recurring debates about civics, the kinds of history that should, and should not, be taught in school, and ‘standards debates’ about the ‘basics’ typically follow on the heels of recurring moral panics about the ‘declining’ state of ‘our’ education system.

A coupled-mode shallow-water model for tidal analysis : internal tide reflection and refraction by the Gulf Stream

open access: yes, 2016
A hydrostatic, coupled-mode, shallow-water model (CSW) is described and used to diagnose and simulate tidal dynamics in the greater Mid-Atlantic Bight region.

SDPR–STK38 axis controls the proliferation–differentiation balance in alveolar type II cells

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The present study identifies SDPR as a pivotal regulator orchestrating the balance between proliferation and differentiation in alveolar type II (AT2) cells. In SDPR+/+ cells, SDPR binds to and inhibits STK38 activity, thereby sustaining GSK‐3β signaling functionality to promote cyclin D1 degradation and maintain cell cycle homeostasis.

Nonlinear Interactions of Planetary‐Scale Waves in Mesospheric Winds Observed at 52°N Latitude and Two Longitudes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Nine‐years of mesospheric wind measurements, from two meteor radars at 52°N latitude, were analyzed to study planetary waves (PWs) and tides through estimating their zonal wavenumbers.

Who made the world's largest green tide in China?—an integrated study on the initiation and early development of the green tide in Yellow Sea

open access: yes, 2015
To discover the original source and clarify development of the world's largest transregional green tides in the Yellow Sea, an integrated investigation covering the Subei Shoal coastal waters and the adjacent regions was carried out during March to June ...

Regional gas exchange evaluation during ex vivo lung perfusion in a swine model of localized lung dysfunction

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) allows the evaluation of lungs that do not meet standard transplantation criteria. Current procedures do not permit the identification of regional functional deficits. We investigated the feasibility of assessing lobar gas exchange during EVLP in a swine model.
