Selective Electrolysis of Water Under Artificial Seawater Conditions Using Transition Metal Borate Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The borate‐based cobalt‐iron catalyst promotes selective oxidation of water rather than chlorine evolution reaction during electrolysis of seawater. When integrated into a zero‐gap electrolyzer prototype, this catalyst supports robust splitting of artificial seawater into oxygen and hydrogen on an extended timescale.

Climate Change Agricultural Comparative Advantage and the US Trade Balance

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current science indicates that warming and elevated atmospheric CO2 will have ambiguous results for crop productivity depending on crop type and geographic location, whereas increased heat stress makes livestock and human labor less productive.

Atmospheric temperature tides in the tropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Atmospheric thermal tides are global-scale waves with periods that are harmonics of a solar day, mainly excited by diurnally varying diabatic heating in the troposphere and the stratosphere.

The impact of tidal errors on the determination of the Lense-Thirring effect from satellite laser ranging

open access: yes, 2001
The general relativistic Lense-Thirring effect can be detected by means of a suitable combination of orbital residuals of the laser-ranged LAGEOS and LAGEOS II satellites.

Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in the Era of Robotics: Evolution, Eclipse, or Equilibrium?

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Minimally invasive colorectal surgery has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past three decades. Laparoscopy, once viewed with skepticism, is now firmly established as a standard approach, supported by robust randomized trials demonstrating oncologic safety and improved recovery compared to open surgery.

Rethinking Perioperative Corticosteroids in Esophageal Cancer Surgery: Evidence From an Integrative Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Esophagectomy remains a highly invasive procedure associated with substantial postoperative morbidity. Pulmonary complications, anastomotic leakage, and in‐hospital mortality are of particular concern. Perioperative corticosteroids are often administered to attenuate excessive inflammatory responses; however, the clinical impact in ...

How do earth tides affect astronomers? [PDF]

open access: yes
Earth tides affect astronomical observations of the Earth's rotation in the following two ways: (1) verticals are deflected; and (2) the polar moment of inertia of the Earth is changed causing periodic variations in the rotation rate.

Cold Flows and Large Scale Tides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Several studies have indicated that the local cosmic velocity field is rather cold, in particular in the regions outside the massive, virialized clusters of galaxies. If our local cosmic environment is taken to be a representative volume of the Universe,

Habitability of extrasolar planets and tidal spin evolution

open access: yes, 2011
Stellar radiation has conservatively been used as the key constraint to planetary habitability. We review here the effects of tides, exerted by the host star on the planet, on the evolution of the planetary spin. Tides initially drive the rotation period
