Late‐summer nitrogen fertilization rate effects on herbage mass, nutritive value, and fertilizer recovery efficiency of stockpiled bermudagrass

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Stockpiled bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) can potentially provide nutritious forage and extend the grazing season in the upper southeastern US Coastal Plain. This multi‐location 1‐year study evaluated the effects of four N fertilizer rates (from 0 to 135 kg ha−1) and four harvest dates (from October to January) on leaf‐to‐stem ...

Evaluation of Tifton 85 during hay production using different nitrogen fertilization rates and dehydration methods [PDF]

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Agricultural Research, 2017
The objective of this study was to evaluate Cynodon species ‘Tifton 85’ at different hay production phases (harvest, baling, and storage) and different (N) rates. Dehydration of the first crop was carried out in the field, while the second crop was in the shed. Dry matter and protein content increased linearly with the N rates.

Improving low‐pH and high‐aluminum field tolerance in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is the fourth most valuable field crop in the United States. Alfalfa production is limited in regions predominated by acidic soils, including the southeastern United States. The purpose of this study was to characterize the effect of low‐pH soils on yield and fall dormancy ratings and select top performers for the ...

Higher copy number of an Arachis hypogaea glutamate receptor‐like candidate gene is associated with increased resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Orthotospovirus tomatomaculae (tomato spotted wilt virus, TSWV) is one of the most destructive viruses of the peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) crop, with significant economic consequences. Genetic resistance is desired to prevent major yield losses for growers.

Use of a conditioning unit at the haymaking of Tifton 85 overseeded with Avena sativa or Lolium multiflorum

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
White oat and ryegrass were overseeded on Tifton 85 pastures for evaluation of dry matter yield (DMY), leaf:stem ratio (L:S), dehydration curves and nutritional value of forages. Dry matter intake and L:S ratio were analyzed using a completely randomized

Gene Expression Patterns Regulating Peanut Reproductive Phenology

open access: yesPlant Direct, Volume 10, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Peanut reproduction is foundational for crop yield, breeding, and evolution. However, gene regulation underlying peanut flowering pattern and timing has received limited attention. Cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) shows two distinct flowering patterns between two subspecies, with ssp.

A new soft red winter wheat cultivar adapted to the U.S. Southeast Region: ‘GA 09377‐16LE18’

open access: yesJournal of Plant Registrations, Volume 20, Issue 2, May/August 2026.
Abstract Soft red winter wheat (SRWW; Triticum aestivum L.) is a major crop grown in the U.S. Southeast Region (the Southeast) that contributes significantly to wheat growers and the industry. However, wheat is challenged by many stresses, resulting in substantial losses in yield and quality.

Is There a Relationship Between Secondary Metabolites of Leaves and the Growth of Eucalyptus Species?

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Flavonoids are essential molecules that affect plant growth and development and act as defense mechanisms against biotic and abiotic factors. This study aimed to assess whether the content of flavonoids in different species of Eucalyptus is related to tree growth.

The maize mitogen‐activated protein kinase kinase kinase gene ZmMAPKKK45 is associated with multiple disease resistance

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 6, Page 3003-3020, March 2026.
Summary Southern leaf blight (SLB), caused by the necrotrophic fungus Cochliobolus heterostrophus, is a major foliar disease of maize (Zea mays) world‐wide. A genome‐wide association study was performed to dissect the genetic basis of SLB resistance in maize. Functional validation was performed using mutant and transgenic analyses.
