The Least-Area Tetrahedral Tile of Space
We determine the least-area unit-volume tetrahedral tile of Euclidean space, without the constraint of Gallagher et al. that the tiling uses only orientation-preserving images of the tile.

This article introduces spotlight tiling, a type of covering which is similar to tiling. The distinguishing aspects of spotlight tiling are that the "tiles" have elastic size, and that the order of placement is significant. Spotlight tilings are decompositions, or coverings, and can be considered dynamic as compared to typical static tiling methods.

Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Self-Affine Tilings with Several Tiles, I
A collection \(T_i \subseteq {\mathbb R}^d\), \(i=1, \ldots, M\), together with an expanding \(d\times d\) matrix \(A\), and a collection of sets \(\Gamma_{ij} \subseteq {\mathbb Z}^d\), \(i,j=1, \ldots, M\), is called \textit{self-affine} if \[ AT_i = \bigcup_{j=1}^M (\Gamma_{ij}+T_j), \;\;(i=1, \ldots, M) \] (the sets in the union above are assumed ...

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Sustainable ceramics derived from solid wastes: a review
Wastes from different manufacturing processes and energy generation unite are attributed to the ecological and health issues. Instead of land-filling, the waste can be recycled or reused to convert marketable value-added products with high ecologic and ...

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Ceramic-ceramic shell tile thermal protection system and method thereof [PDF]
A ceramic reusable, externally applied composite thermal protection system (TPS) is proposed. The system functions by utilizing a ceramic/ceramic upper shell structure which effectively separates its primary functions as a thermal insulator and as a load

Auxeticity‑by‑Assembly converts freeform photovoltaics from cut‑defined layouts to assembly‑defined systems. Standardized interlocking units generate negative‑Poisson‑ratio, reconfigurable architectures, while hinge regions are wired by selectively activatable AgNW–GO@EGaIn composite interconnects and a folding‑enabled interconnector layer. A decimeter‑

A Synovium‐on‐Chip Platform to Study Multicellular Interactions in Arthritis
The Synovium‐on‐Chip comprises a thin microporous PDMS membrane to support co‐culture of fibroblast‐like synoviocytes (FLS), THP‐1‐derived macrophages, and endothelial cells, enabling real‐time analysis of synovial‐vascular interactions. FLS migration through the pores drives endothelial remodeling, while TNF‐α stimulation induces robust inflammatory ...
