On Oxalyl Halide Isothiocyanates Part I: Syntheses and Isomerism

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Oxalyl halide isothiocyanates can be prepared from oxalyl halide with one equivalent of NH4SCN in liquid SO2. While oxalyl bromide isothiocyanate can be isolated as a liquid, the respective chloride compound readily undergoes isomerization under formation of a thiazole ring, which is obtained as a solid.
