Self-Organized Criticality on Quasiperiodic Graphs

open access: yes, 1999
Self-organized critical models are used to describe the 1/f-spectra of rather different physical situations like snow avalanches, noise of electric currents, luminosities of stars or topologies of landscapes.

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Passive Shape‐Adaptive Fluidic Interface for Enhanced Skin‐Sensor Coupling in Wearable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a passive fluidic interface for wearable biosensors that adapts to static and dynamic body shape changes to maintain consistent skin contact. Flexible, fluid‐filled pouches redistribute pressure from high‐load areas to regions requiring improved contact, enhancing signal quality and comfort in a compact, low‐energy design for ...

An AI‐Enabled All‐In‐One Visual, Proximity, and Tactile Perception Multimodal Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Targeting integrated multimodal perception of robots, an AI‐enabled all‐in‐one multimodal sensor is proposed. This sensor is capable of perceiving three types of modalities, including vision, proximity, and tactility. By toggling an ultraviolet light and adjusting the camera focus, it switches smoothly between multiple perceptual modalities, enabling ...

Dual-band topological Bott insulators in Ammann–Beenker-tiling square photonic quasicrystals

open access: yesJPhys Photonics
In this work, we study topological states in Ammann–Beenker-tiling photonic quasicrystals made of magneto-optical materials. While conventional topological states in photonic systems with crystalline symmetry are characterized by topological invariants ...

An integrated workflow for analysis of ChIP-chip data

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2008
Although ChIP-chip is a powerful tool for genome-wide discovery of transcription factor target genes, the steps involving raw data analysis, identification of promoters, and correlation with binding sites are still laborious processes.

Self-similar tiling systems, topological factors and stretching factors

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper we prove that if two self-similar tiling systems, with respective stretching factors $\lambda_1$ and $\lambda_2$, have a common factor which is a non periodic tiling system, then $\lambda_1$ and $\lambda_2$ are multiplicatively ...

Compliant Pneumatic Feet with Real‐Time Stiffness Adaptation for Humanoid Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A compliant pneumatic foot with real‐time variable stiffness enables humanoid robots to adapt to changing terrains. Using onboard vision and pressure control, the foot modulates stiffness within each gait cycle, reducing impact forces and improving balance. The design, cast in soft silicone with embedded air chambers and Kevlar wrapping, offers durable,

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.
