Assessing forensic evidence by computing belief functions

open access: yes, 2016
We first discuss certain problems with the classical probabilistic approach for assessing forensic evidence, in particular its inability to distinguish between lack of belief and disbelief, and its inability to model complete ignorance within a given ...

Genome-wide identification of microRNAs involved in the somatic embryogenesis of Eucalyptus

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2021
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs (18–24 nt) and function in many biological processes in plants. Although Eucalyptus trees are widely planted across the world, our understanding of the miRNA regulation in the somatic embryogenesis (SE) of ...

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Analysis of LOX-HPL-ADH Pathway Genes Contributing to C6 Volatile Diversity in Chinese Plum (Prunus salicina)

open access: yesHorticulturae
The characteristic green-note aroma of Chinese plum (Prunus salicina) is largely defined by C6 aldehydes and alcohols synthesized through the fatty acid pathway involving lipoxygenase (LOX), hydroperoxide lyase (HPL), and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH ...

Complexation of Boronic Acid with Chiral α-Hydroxycarboxylic Acids and the Ability of the Complexes to Catalyze α-Hydroxycarboxylic Acid Esterification

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The complexation of boric acid (BA) with various α-hydroxycarboxylic acids (HCAs) was examined by analyzing the change in the optical rotation after the addition of BA to aqueous HCA solutions, and the catalytic properties of the complexes were examined ...

Artificial Symbiosis for Bulk Production of Bacterial Cellulose Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐cultivation of the cellulose‐producing bacterium with the microalga enables bulk formation of bacterial cellulose under static incubation, with photosynthetically active oxygen‐generating sites throughout the medium. This symbiotic platform supports 3D cellulosic constructs with geometries dictated by the vessel shape.

Markets Mitigate Land‐Use Competition From Energy Crops and Increase Farm Revenues

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Meeting the US Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge target of 35 billion gal annually by 2050 will require an estimated 380 million–700 million dry tons of agricultural biomass feedstock. This study evaluates the implications of large‐scale biomass production for land use, crop production, and market outcomes under mature market ...

Preparation of MOEAMCl and MAAm Based Hydrogels and Effective Use in Anionic Dye Adsorption

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 16, April 20, 2025.
ABSTRACT In this study, hydrogels based on [2‐(Methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (MOEAMCl) and methacrylamide (MAAm) were synthesized for the removal of anionic dyes from aqueous solutions. Following detailed characterization, the use of hydrogels for methyl orange (MO) adsorption was investigated.
