Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Analytical geolocation and three‐dimensional localisation by time difference of arrival

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2016
Geolocation based on time differences of arrival measured by three sensors is studied. Closed‐form analytical solutions are derived, even for the cases where one or more sensors are not located on the earth. Exploiting four sensors, full three‐dimensional localisation is achieved as well. These numbers of sensors are minimal.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Indoor positioning in 5G new radio: how it works, status quo of research, and the road ahead

open access: yesICT Express
In this paper, the architecture and mechanism of 5G New Radio indoor positioning schemes such as downlink time difference of arrival (DL-TDOA), uplink (UL) TDOA, multiple-cell round trip time (Multi-RTT), DL angle of departure, UL angle of arrival (AOA),

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Constrained Weighted Least-Squares Algorithms for 3-D AOA-Based Hybrid Localization

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing
Source localization with time-of-arrival (TOA), time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA), time-delay (TD), received-signal-strength (RSS), or angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurements from several spatially distributed sensors is commonly used in practice.

Calibration-free localization using time differences of arrival (Kalibrierungsfreie Lokalisierung mittels Time Differences of Arrival)

open access: yes, 2013
The continuous rise of mobile technology in everyday life has led to an increasing demand for location-based services for handheld applications and autonomous systems. In recent time, a shift of interest towards indoor localization can be observed where global navigation satellite systems, such as the Global Positioning System, are mostly not available.
