Average Inflation Targeting: Time Inconsistency and Intentional Ambiguity

Working paper (Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland), 2021
We study the implications of the Fed's new policy framework of average inflation targeting (AIT) and its ambiguous communication. We show that AIT improves the trade-off between inflation and real activity by tilting the Phillips curve in a favorable way.

Technical Note - Time Inconsistency of Optimal Policies of Distributionally Robust Inventory Models

Operational Research, 2020
The authors extend previous studies of time inconsistency to risk averse (distributionally robust) inventory models and show that time inconsistency is not unique to robust multistage decision making, but may happen for a large class of risk averse ...

Time-Inconsistent Control Theory

2021
We now go on to study a class of time-inconsistent control problems. Before proceeding to the formal theory, we first recall a part of our discussion on the Bellman optimality principle from the Introduction. We then detail the game-theoretic formulation, whereby we view the problem as a non-cooperative game with one player at each point in time ...

Time-Inconsistent Regulator Problems

2021
In this chapter we study two time-inconsistent versions of the classical linear quadratic regulator. In the first version, time inconsistency enters through a quadratic function of the expected value. In the second version, time inconsistency enters through an explicit dependence of the initial state in the quadratic term.
