Bias free estimation of the variance of time of arrival differences
ICASSP '84. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1985In the frequency domain estimation of Time of Arrival differences, phase data of the cross-spectrum may show correlation between frequency bins due to either insufficient time-bandwidth product or the use of a nonrectangular window on the input signal samples.

On the bias of pseudolinear estimators for time-of-arrival based localization
2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2017Closed-form pseudolinear estimators are computationally attractive alternatives to iterative nonlinear techniques. For time-of-arrival (TOA) based localization, several pseudolinear estimators have been proposed such as the least squares calibration (LSC) estimator, the linear least squares (LLS) estimator, and their best linear unbiased estimator ...

Data-driven aircraft estimated time of arrival prediction
2015 Annual IEEE Systems Conference (SysCon) Proceedings, 2015Predicting an aircraft's Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) while enroute can be a challenging endeavor. The great number of factors that can affect a flight's punctuality range from things well under the pilot's control, such as flight level and cruise airspeed, all the way to environmental circumstances that are generally very hard to predict, such as ...

Time-of-arrival estimation for E-OTD location in GERAN
12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. PIMRC 2001. Proceedings (Cat. No.01TH8598), 2002In this paper, the problem of time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation for E-OTD location in a GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) is described. To increase the number of available bursts for TOA estimation (and therefore increase the accuracy), the mobile can use bursts from all time slots. However, this requires that the TOA estimation algorithm is able to

Estimation of Time of Arrival for Rectangular Pulses
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1984We consider the performance of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for the time of arrival of a rectangular pulse in additive white Gaussian noise. Upper and lower bounds are derived for the mean square error. These bounds are tight for both medium and large energy-to-noise ratios.

Time-of-Arrival Estimation Based on Information Theoretic Criteria
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2013The possibility to accurately localize tags by using wireless techniques is of great importance for several emerging applications in the Internet of Things. Precise ranging can be obtained with ultra wideband (UWB) impulse radio (IR) systems, where short impulses are transmitted, and their time-of-arrival (ToA) is estimated at the receiver.

Improving the performance of the time-of-arrival estimator in MIMO systems
2012 6th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems, 2012With the objective of minimizing the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of the time of arrival (ToA) estimator, we propose a method to improve the accuracy of ToA estimate for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems when the transmitted signal can be pre-processed.

F-Wave Decomposition for Time of Arrival Profile Estimation
2007 29th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2007F-waves are distally recorded muscle responses that result from "backfiring" of motor neurons following stimulation of peripheral nerves. Each F-wave response is a superposition of several motor unit responses (F-wavelets). Initial deflection of the earliest F-wavelet defines the traditional F-wave latency (FWL) and earlier F-wavelet may mask F ...

Maximum Likelihood time of arrival estimation for ultrawideband signals
2007 9th International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2007In this contribution, we investigate maximum likelihood (ML) techniques for the estimation of time of arrival (ToA) for ultrawideband (UWB) propagation signals. Using the same methodology as [1], which was introduced for the multichannel estimation, we derive the ML criteria for the UWB ToA parameters estimation and we apply a denoising frequency ...

Estimated time of arrival and debiasing the time saving bias
Ergonomics, 2015The time saving bias predicts that the time saved when increasing speed from a high speed is overestimated, and underestimated when increasing speed from a slow speed. In a questionnaire, time saving judgements were investigated when information of estimated time to arrival was provided.
