A metrological approach to the time of flight diffraction method (ToFD)

Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation, 2021
Abstract Introduction Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is widely used in industry, especially in the evaluation of mechanical parts and structures for identifying defects, corrosion, flaws or imperfections. Time of flight diffraction (ToFD) is a method to assess discontinuities high within a workpiece or material, what is not easy to do with ...

Shear-wave time of flight diffraction (S-TOFD) technique

NDT and E International, 2006
Ultrasonic time of flight diffraction (TOFD) for sizing defects is based on the time of flight of the diffracted echo that is generated when a longitudinal wave is incident on a crack tip. This technique has the limitation during near-surface inspection due to signal superposition.

An alternative Ultrasonic Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) method

NDT and E International, 2018
Abstract In this work an alternative TOFD method is presented, capable to detect and size defects in the inspected material with good precision. It was shown that the diffraction used in this technique is the most relevant signal among the longitudinal backwall and the shear backwall echoes, compared to other TOFD methods.

Inspection Using Shear Wave Time of Flight Diffraction (S-TOFD) Technique

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006
Ultrasonic Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) for sizing defects is based on the time of flight of the longitudinal diffracted echo(es) that is (arc) generated when a longitudinal wave is incident on a crack tip. TOFD technique so far has been commonly applied for the inspection of thick sections (>15 mm) and thickness below 5 mm from the scanning ...
