Time resolved DNA occupancy dynamics during the respiratory oscillation uncover a global reset point in the yeast growth program

open access: yes, 2014
The structural dynamics of chromatin have been implicated in the regulation of fundamental eukaryotic processes, such as DNA transcription, replication and repair.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

From static difference to time-resolved spectroscopy of coupled electron and proton transfer in the quinol: fumarate reductase of Wolinella succinogenes

open access: yes, 2011
The enzyme quinol:fumarate reductase (QFR) from the anaerobic epsilon-proteobacterium Wolinella succinogenes is a membrane protein complex that couples the catalysis of the oxidation of menaquinol to menaquinone to that of the reduction of fumarate to ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Fluorescence quenching and time-resolved fluorescence studies on Momordica charantia (bitter gourd) seed lectin

open access: yes, 1998
Chemical modifications studies implicated tryptophan (Trp) residues in the sugar binding activity of Momordica charantia lectin (MCL) [Mazumdar, T., Gaur, N. & Surolia, A. (1981) Eur. J. Biochem. 113, 463-470]. In the present study, the accessibility

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Time-dependent dichroism and transient valley polarisation in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides under finite-pulse radiation

open access: yesJPhys Materials
Recent advances in time-resolved angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy have enabled access to ultrafast electron states and their spin dynamics in solids.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.
