An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Multivariate Extreme Learning Machine Based AutoEncoder for Electricity Consumption Series Clustering

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Multivariate electricity consumption series clustering can reflect the trend of power consumption changes in the past time period, which can provide reliable guidance for electricity production.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Robust Time Series Contrastive Representation Learning via Explicit Seasonal-Trend Disentanglement

open access: yesIEEE Access
We address universal self-supervised representation learning for time series under label scarcity and distribution shifts. A key challenge is that prevalent encode-then-decompose pipelines only implicitly separate seasonal and trend signals, which mixes ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Dynamic Sub-Sequence Warping: A Representation-Based Similarity Measure for Long Time Series

open access: yesData Science and Engineering
Dynamic time warping (DTW), a typical elastic similarity measure that compares one-to-many points, has been proven effective for various time-series data mining tasks. However, it requires a quadratic time complexity $$O(n^2)$$ proportional to the length

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Outlier detection in multivariate time series via projection pursuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This article uses Projection Pursuit methods to develop a procedure for detecting outliers in a multivariate time series. We show that testing for outliers in some projection directions could be more powerful than testing the multivariate series directly.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Nonlinear Error Correction Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The relationship between cointegration and error correction (EC) models is well characterized in a linear context, but the extension to the nonlinear context is still a challenge.
