Time to Market

Integrated Manufacturing Systems, 1994
Over the last two decades, Japanese products have challenged Western ones, not only in terms of cost but also on quality, reliability and delivery. This has meant that meeting customer needs on time has now entered the competitive equation. Hence, in the 1990s, time to market (TTM) has become a focal point in achieving competitive advantage in the ...

Time-to-Market in Vertically Differentiated Industries [PDF]

open access: possible, 2005

TIME TO MARKET AND IMPATIENT CUSTOMERS

Bulletin of Economic Research, 2012
ABSTRACTWe analyse the decision of firms about when to launch their products on the market when they produce differentiated goods and compete on prices. We find two subgame perfect equilibria: one in which the high‐quality firm holds its leadership in quality, and another in which the low‐quality firm leapfrogs its rival.

There is a major difference between the Japanese approach to design, and traditional Western methods — TQM principles, have been applied to the Japanese process, whereas typically there has been a total lack of TQM application in the West. The failure to apply TQM principles results in the serial approach to design, which forces the design process ...
