Contact characterization and time-varying meshing stiffness calculation of elliptical gears

Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design
The investigation of tooth contact characteristics in elliptical gears holds significant importance for gear transmission analysis. This study focuses on elliptical gear pairs, establishing precise tooth surface equations through gear hobbing principles to develop a digital model.

A general contact stiffness model for elastic bodies and its application in time-varying mesh stiffness of gear drive

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, 2022
As a critical element of time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS), contact stiffness of a gear drive has been defined based on simplified Hertzian contact stiffness or semi-empirical nonlinear Hertzian contact stiffness in previous works. This study proposes a general contact stiffness model for elastic bodies through piecewise linear interpolation of ...

Parametric Instability in Planetary Gears With Frequency-Modulated Time-Varying Mesh Stiffness

Volume 8: 26th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2014
A rotational model of planetary gears is developed which incorporates mesh stiffness variation and input speed fluctuations. Gear mesh stiffness is approximated by rectangle wave and different harmonic orders are considered. Because of speed fluctuations, the mesh stiffness is frequency modulated.

A time‐varying meshing stiffness model for gears with mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication based on load‐sharing

Quality and Reliability Engineering International
AbstractIn mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL), the load distribution between the gear meshing surfaces is shared by the oil film and the asperities of the gear's rough surface. Based on the load‐sharing concept, this paper proposes a time‐varying meshing stiffness (TVMS) model for gears with mixed EHL.

An improved analytical method for calculating time-varying mesh stiffness of helical gears

Meccanica, 2017
A “slice method” is adopted to calculate the time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS) of helical gear pairs, where the tooth is divided into many individual sliced spur gears along the tooth width, and the TVMS of helical gear pairs is obtained by accumulating the TVMS of the sliced spur gear pairs.

Evaluating the time-varying mesh stiffness of a planetary gear set using the potential energy method

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2013
Time-varying mesh stiffness is a periodic function caused by the change in the number of contact tooth pairs and the contact positions of the gear teeth. It is one of the main sources of vibration of a gear transmission system. An efficient and effective way to evaluate the time-varying mesh stiffness is essential to comprehensively understand the ...

An improved time-varying mesh stiffness model for helical gear pairs considering axial mesh force component

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2018
Abstract An improved time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS) model of a helical gear pair is proposed, in which the total mesh stiffness contains not only the common transverse tooth bending stiffness, transverse tooth shear stiffness, transverse tooth radial compressive stiffness, transverse gear foundation stiffness and Hertzian contact stiffness, but ...

Nonlinear dynamic of a spiral bevel gear pair with time-varying mesh stiffness

2017
Bevel gears are one of the most important components of mechanical system to transmit motion between intersecting axes. For high-speed power transmission, spiral bevel gears are more useful instead of straight bevel gears. One of the main sources of vibration and noise of bevel gears, are oscillations of transmission error. Vibration Analysis of a gear
