Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Modularity and Temporal Reasoning: a Logic Programming Approach [PDF]
Albeit temporal reasoning and modularity are very prolific fields of research in Logic Programming (LP), we find few examples of their integration. In this paper we propose the addition of temporal annotations to a modular extension of LP.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Optimal Control for Simple Linear Hybrid Systems [PDF]
This paper studies optimal time-bounded control in a simple subclass of linear hybrid systems, which consists of one continuous variable and global constraints. Each state has a continuous cost attached to it, which is linear in the sojourn time, while a

Given that effective angular momentum (EAM) data demonstrate a strong correlation with length of day (LOD) data and are extensively utilized in the prediction of the universal time (UT1), this research integrated the EAM into the design of a Kalman ...

Chip-scale atomic diffractive optical elements
Quantum coherence and the nonlinear properties of atoms are highly useful in optical devices. Here the authors show quantum-optic hybrid platforms in fully integrated chip-scale atomic diffractive optical elements by embedding hot atomic Rb vapor in ...

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Compact Real-Time Inter-Frame Histogram Builder for 15-Bits High-Speed ToF-Imagers Based on Single-Photon Detection [PDF]
Time-of-flight (ToF) image sensors based on single-photon detection, i.e., SPADs, require some filtering of pixel readings. Accurate depth measurements are only possible if the jitter of the detector is mitigated.

Estimating Transit Vehicle Dwell Times at Bus Stops [PDF]
This work presents a quantitative approach to estimate the total time spent in the vicinity of a bus stop including the deceleration time, the boarding and alighting time (developed in an earlier study), the acceleration time, and re-entry time (time required to merge into the adjacent lane).

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to
