The use of distribution generators affects fault currents, leading to miscoordination between protection relays and causing constraints on network reliability. To tackle this issue, an adaptive protection scheme (APS) based on a modified pelican optimization algorithm (MPOA) and active database management system is proposed.

This paper is aimed at recloser‐fuse protection in CESS employed multi‐microgrid distribution systems for improving the fuse saving task and mitigating the fault resistance effects. In this way, after applying the conventional recloser‐fuse protection scheme, a new scheme is presented to improve the performance of the system in presence of CESS and ...

A probabilistic approach for optimal operation of wind‐integrated power systems including UPFC
Abstract The optimal location and setting of the unified power flow controller (UPFC) along with power plant generators' output parameters to enhance power systems reliability in the presence of uncertain variables are determined in this paper. For this purpose, the expected power not served (EPNS) is used as a reliability index based on the total ...

Low Computational Burden Adaptive Overcurrent Protection for Active Distribution Networks
Conventional distribution networks have evolved into active distribution networks due to the high penetration of distributed energy resources. These new networks have several protection issues; some are related to the high fault and load current variations due to the various operating conditions.

Abstract Much attention has been paid to optimizing smart grids (SGs) and microgrids (MGs) protection schemes. The SGs’ operation in different operating modes (especially grid‐connected and islanded conditions) and various system configurations (such as the outage of each of the distribution generations) adversely influence the protection system.

Abstract The optimized protective systems for smart grids and microgrids have received much attention in recent years. However, besides other selectivity constraints, less attention has been paid to synchronous generators’ stability concerns. The stability challenges are intensified in meshed grids compared to radial configurations.

Abstract This paper presents economic planning of synchronous distributed generations (SDGs) constrained to protection and operation indices in the distribution network. The proposed scheme has a two‐stage formulation. In the first stage, optimal protection coordination (OPC) is modelled in the first phase in a network without SDGs.

Abstract Fault currents of inverter‐interfaced distributed generators (IIDGs) depend on inverter controllers. Thus, IIDGs fault currents are different than those of synchronous‐based DGs, both from the magnitude and waveshape perspectives. In the event of short‐circuit faults, droop‐based IIDGs switch between a voltage source and a current source ...
