Improvement in estimation of time of arrival (TOA) from timing advance (TA)

ICUPC '98. IEEE 1998 International Conference on Universal Personal Communications. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98TH8384), 2002
Wireless systems reporting TOA (time of arrival), the propagation time from the mobile station (MS) to the base station (BS), may use this information to assist with automatic location identification (ALI). The TA (timing advance), used in TDMA systems, may be used as an approximation for TOA.

Estimation of Channel State Information (CSI) in Cell-Free Massive MIMO Based on Time of Arrival (ToA)

Wireless Personal Communications, 2020
Cell-free massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) comprises a large number of distributed single antenna access points (APs) connected to a network controller through backhaul. Each user is served by neighbouring APs simultaneously. Cell-free Massive MIMO provides decent throughput and coverage improvement as compared to a small-cell.

Geometric optimization of a time-of-arrival (TOA) based self-positioning terrestrial system

2011 IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas and Electronic Systems (COMCAS 2011), 2011
This work investigates geometric optimization of antenna configuration in lateral geometry for a terrestrial time-of-arrival based self-positioning system, considering optimization confronted by two competing and opposing phenomena, the purely geometric analogy of GPS geometric dilution of precision, and tracking errors in correlation of the ...

Time-of-Arrival Estimation for Integrated Satellite Navigation and Communication Signals

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2023
Global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) are used in numerous fields, but their vulnerability is a global problem that has yet to be solved. A promising way to effectively address this problem is by integrating navigation into emerging dense ...

Quantum delay in the time of arrival of free-falling atoms

Physical Review A, 2023
Using standard results from statistics, we show that for Gaussian quantum systems the distribution of a time measurement at a fixed position can be directly inferred from the distribution of a position measurement at a fixed time as given by the Born ...

Pioneering time-of-arrival localization with cable-free and battery-free transponders

Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
In traditional underwater acoustic positioning methods, reliance on systems such as Long Baseline (LBL) and Short Baseline (SBL) localization utilize transponders that actively transmit acoustic pulses.

The Impact of Multipath Information on Time-of-Arrival Estimation

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2022
Time-of-arrival (TOA) based localization plays a central role in current and future localization systems. Such systems, exploiting the fine delay resolution properties of wideband and ultra-wideband (UWB) signals, are particularly attractive for ranging ...

Time of Arrival and Angle of Arrival Estimation Algorithm in Dense Multipath

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2021
Accurate position determination of a wireless device by time-of-arrival (TOA) and angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimation of the line-of-sight (LOS) path with an array of collocated antennas, is important in various applications.
