Time Perception: Space–Time in the Brain [PDF]
Accurate timing over the sub-second scale is essential for a range of human perceptual and motor activities, but the mechanisms for encoding this time scale are poorly understood. Recent work is suggesting that timing does not involve a centralised clock, but patterning within a distributed network.

Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Slowed response to peripheral visual stimuli during strenuous exercise [PDF]
Recently, we proposed that strenuous exercise impairs peripheral visual perception because visual responses to peripheral visual stimuli were slowed during strenuous exercise.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Decoding Visual Imagery from EEG Signals using Visual Perception Guided Network Training Method [PDF]
An electroencephalogram is an effective approach that provides a bidirectional pathway between user and computer in a non-invasive way. In this study, we adopted the visual perception data for training the visual imagery decoding network. We proposed a visual perception-guided network training approach for decoding visual imagery.

Time of day perception in paintings
The spectral shape, irradiance, direction, and diffuseness of daylight vary regularly throughout the day. The variations in illumination and their effect on the light reflected from objects may in turn provide visual information as to the time of day. We suggest that artists’ color choices for paintings of outdoor scenes might convey this information ...

Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Semantic Communication for Cooperative Perception based on Importance Map [PDF]
Cooperative perception, which has a broader perception field than single-vehicle perception, has played an increasingly important role in autonomous driving to conduct 3D object detection. Through vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology, various connected automated vehicles (CAVs) can share their sensory information (LiDAR point clouds) for ...

On the Cyclotomic Quantum Algebra of Time Perception [PDF]
I develop the idea that time perception is the quantum counterpart to time measurement. Phase-locking and prime number theory were proposed as the unifying concepts for understanding the optimal synchronization of clocks and their 1/f frequency noise ...

Interaction of numerosity and time in prefrontal and parietal cortex [PDF]
It has been proposed that numerical and temporal information are processed by partially overlapping magnitude systems. Interactions across different magnitude domains could occur both at the level of perception and decision-making.
