Effect of timing of artificial insemination on sex ratio

Theriogenology, 1999
For a number of years, the time of insemination or mating during estrus has been believed to influence the sex ratio of offspring, with early insemination resulting in more females and late insemination, more males. Possible mechanisms of altering the sex ratio include facilitating or inhibiting the transport of either X- or Y-chromosome-bearing sperm ...

Optimal timing of artificial insemination in gilts

Pig breeding the interdepartmental subject scientific digest, 2020
In the article it is highlighted the results of research on the features of cervix permeability and optimal periods of fertilization in pubertal gilts. Five high-productive boars of the Large White breed, aged 18-36 months, were used in experiments and evaluated for the quality of sperm. The start of the estrus was carried out using a test boar. In the

Ultrasound in the Timing of Artificial Insemination with Frozen Donor Semen

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 2010
Ultrasonography was performed to time ovulation in 30 patients participating in program for artificial insemination with donor semen (AID). During this study (10 months) 61 scans were carried out where one or more follicles were visible. The mean number of treatment cycles per patient was 2.8.

Strategies to improve the success of fixed‐time artificial insemination in the ewe

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2023
AbstractDuring the sheep breeding season, ovulatory follicles vary widely in age at pessary removal impacting both the timing of oestrus and pregnancy rates following artificial insemination (AI). Ovulatory follicles that emerge between days 7 to 9 of the pessary period are associated with higher fertility whilst those that emerge earlier or later are ...

Timing of ovulation for artificial insemination.

Health bulletin, 1989
Two studies involving eighty women having treatment with artificial insemination by donor (AID) have demonstrated that the use of a urinary semi-quantitative assay for luteinising hormone (LH) gives pregnancy rates comparable to those obtained using plasma LH for the timing of insemination.

Implementing Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination Programs in Beef Herds

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice
The article discusses the importance of reproductive biotechnologies, including artificial insemination and fixed-time artificial insemination (TAI), in beef cow-calf operations. The use of TAI improves cow-calf productivity and profitability by shortening the breeding season and increasing the number of calves born earlier, resulting in heavier calves

Timing and frequency of artificial insemination in women under menotropin therapy

Fertility and Sterility, 1985
The timing and frequency of AID were reviewed in 36 women who received menotropin therapy. One hundred thirteen treatment cycles were reviewed with AID done once per cycle in 39, twice per cycle in 63, and three times per cycle in 11 cases. The pregnancy rate was 19.5% per treatment cycle, with 21 of the 36 patients (58%) conceiving.

Effect of timing of artificial insemination on gender ratio in beef cattle

Theriogenology, 1999
It was recently reported that cows inseminated at approximately 10 or 20 h before an expected ovulation deliver predominately a bull or heifer calf, respectively. The objective of this study was to further investigate the effect of timing of insemination on the gender of offspring in cattle.
