Effect of Stage Loading and Tip Clearance on Tip Clearance Flows in a Centrifugal Compressor
Journal of Aerospace Sciences and Technologies, 2023The present paper reports measurement of periodic static pressures on the casing over the impeller of a low speed centrifugal compressor at different stage loadings and tip clearances. The periodic pressure data is acquired employing the technique called PLEAT.

Flow Visualization in a Linear turbine Cascade with Tip Clearance
Flow visualization and heat/mass transfer measurements in a linear turbine cascade with tip clearance levels ranging from 0.60% to 6.90% of actual chord show the influence of blade tip geometry for a standard flat tip, a squealer tip and a geometry with a winglet on the pressure side and a squealer on the suction side of the blade.

Journal of Turbomachinery, 2017
Since the early work on axial compressors, the penalties due to radial clearances between blades and side walls are known and are an ongoing focus of research work. The periodic unsteadiness of the tip clearance vortex (TCV), due to its interaction with the stator wakes, has only rarely been addressed in research papers so far.

Tip Clearance and Tip Vortex Cavitation in an Axial Flow Pump
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1997A combined study of tip clearance and tip vortex cavitations in a pump-type rotating machine is presented. Cavitation patterns are observed and cavitation inception is determined for various gap heights, clearance and blade geometries, and rotor operating conditions.

Optimization Design of Tip Clearance Shape
2008 International Conference on Apperceiving Computing and Intelligence Analysis, 2008The background is one aero-engine's structure. The shape of turbine tip clearance is researched, by the means of numerical analysis. Parametric modeling, process integration, and optimization of tip clearance shape were proposed. The detailed information of flow field shows that the numerical results agree well with experiment data.

Endwall Profiling With Tip Clearance Flows
Volume 8: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2012This paper describes the design of a non-axisymmetric profiled endwall with tip clearance flow. Previous designs have assumed that the interaction between the tip clearance flow and the endwall has been negligible and this paper allows this assumption to be tested.

Turbine Tip-Clearance Measurement.
1977Abstract : This report describes the analysis and measurement of turbine tip clearance over the full range of operation of an advanced gas turbine engine. The first-stage turbine of the Lycoming advanced gas generator was used as the test vehicle for analytic and experimental evaluation. Tip-clearance response of the stage was analyzed for steady-state

A Microwave Blade Tip Clearance Sensor for Active Clearance Control Applications
40th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 2004Active clearance control has been used to improve efficiency and performance in commercial aircraft engines. Technologies implemented to date rely on compressor bleed air to control clearances based on open loop control and the flight regime (takeoff, cruise, etc.).

Propeller tip clearance and afterbody form
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1969This report presents some simple theoretical considerations of how the transverse slope of the sections of the stern above the propeller is expected to influence the propeller-induced vibratory surface force in vertical direction on the afterbody. The results indicate that flat-bottomed sections are preferable.

The Measurement and Formation of Tip Clearance Loss
Journal of Turbomachinery, 1989The detailed development of tip clearance loss from the leading to trailing edge of a linear turbine cascade was measured and the contributions made by mixing, internal gap shear flow, and endwall/ secondary flow were identified, separated, and quantified for the first time.
