Effect of tip flange on tip leakage flow of small axial flow fans

Journal of Thermal Science, 2014
Aerodynamic performance of an axial flow fan is closely related to its tip clearance leakage flow. In this paper, the hot-wire anemometer is used to measure the three dimensional mean velocity near the blade tips. Moreover, the filtered N-S equations with finite volume method and RNG k-ɛ turbulence model are adopted to carry out the steady simulation ...

Effect of arbitrary blade tip design on tip leakage flow

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2019
Tip geometry modification is frequently used to suppress the tip leakage flow in the turbine cascade however a universally beneficial tip geometry modification design has not been fully discovered. In this paper, the two-surface coupling arbitrary blade tip design method in three-dimensional physical space which satisfies the simple trigonometric ...

Tip Leakage Flow: Advanced Measurements and Analysis

22nd AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference, 2016
Advanced measurements of a tip clearance flow are carried out in the large subsonic anechoic wind tunnel of the LMFA in Lyon. The experimental set-up is obtained by placing the airfoil between two plates into the potential core of a turbulent rectangular jet, the upper plate being the hub and the lower the casing.

Tip Leakage Flow Instability in a Centrifugal Compressor

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2019
Abstract In this paper, an unsteady tip leakage flow phenomenon is identified and investigated in a centrifugal compressor with a vaneless diffuser at near-stall conditions. This phenomenon is associated with the inception of a rotating instability in the compressor.

The Influence of Boundary Conditions on Tip Leakage Flow

Journal of Turbomachinery, 2013
Much of the current understanding of tip leakage flow has been derived from detailed cascade studies. Such experiments are inherently approximate since it is difficult to simulate the boundary conditions that are present in a real machine, particularly the secondary flows convecting from the upstream stator row and the relative motion of the casing and

Tip Leakage Flow In a Mixed-flow Pump

The numerical results used to describe the special flow features/characteristics of the mixed-flow pump in this chapter were obtained by employing the computational methodology described in Chapter 3 which includes the pump model, mesh generation, turbulence models and their near wall treatment, and the boundary conditions.

Unsteadiness of Tip Leakage Flow in an Axial Compressor

Journal of Fluid Machinery, 2012
Three dimensional unsteady numerical calculations were performed to investigate unsteadiness of the tip leakage flow in an axial compressor. The first stage of the four-stage low-speed research axial compressor was examined. Since this compressor has a relatively large tip clearance, the unsteadiness of the tip leakage flow is induced.
